Milano 1698–1767 Giacomo Ceruti
soldiers at a card game , oil on canvas 196 x 143 cm
originally Palazzo Reale and Museo del Duomo, Settecento Lombardo

Oltremarini or Schiavoni = footsoldiers of the Venician and early 18. Century Imperial Habsburgian army.
Recruted from locals at the border erea ( “Grenzer” or in Slav language “Krajina”)
mostly local farmers either forced or against small wage or gifts at the borders to enter the service.
Ranking from Vlachs, Georgians, Transsylvania, Hungary, Dalmatia, Croatia other Slav peoples. Similar like the Pandurs who were cavalry due to riding horses
