So, it would not be "too big a deal" to use bone or moose antler to replace a missing buntut, or a missing tip to the "crosspiece" of the "warangka"? [Please excuse me. My choice of words may not be correct].

If bone or moose antler are not really ideal, could a guy get away with using Gaboon ebony, African blackwood, Makassar ebony, [or even ipe, wenge, or zebrawood] instead of buffalo horn?

By the first part I would say yes, by the second part I would say no. Never have seen sewars with a wooden toe.
