Hi Aurangzeb,
I have one of these....in fact you posted my thread on this particular dagger....like you, I like mine also.....its crude but it does have it's own 'charm'. Battara, could you please explain why you think this type of knife originates from Ethiopia as yet, I have no conclusive proof of where my dagger came from...... |

Gentlemen
I do believe this is a type of shula dagger it really does not strike me as being Turkish it seems more North African or Morrocan. The blade are almost identical to the shulas. I must disagree with Battara the dagger is not Ethiopian in any way. Lew |

Hello Lew!
I know what you mean about it not looking very Turkish, I also see what you mean about it looking North African. This is just a guess but maybe these daggers come from Libya, once again only a guess. Is this theroy possible or not??? Mark... |

A tourist knife from early to mid 20th C.
There is an identical example shown in Levine, p.481.* Here is Levine's description: "About 15 inches overall. Curved blade with arabic inscription. Hook-like pommel and guard of ebony. Brass sheath. 19th-20th centuries." Ian. ---------------------------------------- * Bernard Levine. Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values. Fifth edition. Krause Publication, Iola, WI. 2001 |
