Default Early "eared" sword hilt

I was looking into Luristan swords, and found the British Museum had this example, with an eared hilt reminiscent of Balkan yataghans.

I have no idea whether there's any connection besides the visual; the gap in time seems insurmountable. I'm also unaware of the prevalence of the eared hilt in various cultures, but the feature seemed worthy of remark.
