Modification to the keris blade by altering its dapor is unethical. It does damage to the industry as well.
Instead, it is better to commission a new piece with this dapur and describe it as a new keris. Rather than alterating an existing blade and claiming it to be an original old keris. (imo only). Ultimately, the one who will pay the price is the ill-informed collector. ![]() |

The photos of the Putut keris were all very informative and only the baby Pututs under the tree are definitely new and cringe worthy as the tree is the Golkar Party's symbol. Golkar was Suharto's tool to keep his dictatorship appear democratic.
The most legendary Putut keris were made by Mpu Umyang / Mpu Kodok who first worked for the court of Pajang (1551-1582) and after that worked for the kingdom of Madiun (burnt down during the Java War 1825-1830). Mpu Umyang's keris are sought after for their beauty and for their esoteric powers believed to protect the property of the bearer of the keris. Because of that even during his life time there were probably alot of copiers for his work. Written descriptions of the Umyang keris contradict themselves except on the day the Mpu died which was a Umanis Wednesday (Rabu Legi) and bearers of Umyang's blades traditionally 'feed' their keris with incense smoke on this night. Salam keris |
