Hello friends,
My first gunong in a long while. 9 inches overall, 5 1/2" monosteel blade. The ferrule and guard is horn with some insect damage. The hilt seems to be elephant ivory as it has what I think are Schreger angles. The wooden scabbard is cracked and has been wrapped in leather with slits for a belt. I'm guessing it was done by the person who brought it to the States. Seems to have a fair bit of age. Interested in your thoughts. Thanks, Steve |

Hello Steve,
Nice addition to your family - thanks for posting! I do like the horn fittings as well as the blade shape! Quote:

I agree with Detlef, the contrast of the black horn and the ivory is stunning.
A great find! I am green with envy. Have fun, Leif |

This is a nice piece and congratulations! I agree - a great contrast between the ivory and the horn. A great addition to your collection, Tito Gunong!
I will only raise one small issue: I would not consider this an early gunong but a later gunong due to the shape of the pommel and the mono steel blade. These aspects would probably put this into the late 1920s - early 1930s (according to Federico's classification). Still a very attractive piece. |

Thank you Jose for the good information! Only 85 years old then. Good enough for CITES. 😀
