While i have learned not to ever say never i would feel 99.999999999% comfortable say that your suspicion that this "can't be right" is absolutely correct.

This is something I have not seen previously, but logically, it could be an indigenous adaptation.

Good close-ups of the union between blade and shaft, and the butt end of the shaft, as well as a couple of closeups of sections of the shaft might help in the forming of an opinion.

I cant see how they started life together but then its been in this form for some time I would say , the bamboo has a well used patination , here is is another pic
