Hello Tom, I should have made it a little more clear. The rust makes it look like wood, that has gone now. It is one piece of metal. Tim

Couldn't it be a spear head with a very long tang ?

If so, I don't think it's from Congo as their spears mostly have sockets.

Please show it to us when it's cleaned
