Are you sure they are the remains of a file's teeth, koftgari when stripped leaves behind a cross hatched pattern in the steel that can look like the remains of a file.

David yes I'm sure they are file teeth. Use to hang out with many blade smiths when I first got the bug and saw many examples a hand forged knives from files.
