Identification of origin of kris hilt

I would welcome suggestions about the place of origin of this hilt.

Hello Loedjoe,

it is a Jawa Deman hilt of unusual form, could be from Sumatra but could be as well from Sumbawa. I have seen hilts of similar form which was attributed to Sumbawa. Is it from wood?

Many thanks for your suggestions. Yes, it is wood, striped horizontally with dark and light bands, impossible to see in the photos.

Yes, the wood is very like your intersting hilt, but not as clear - the surface on mine is rather worn. Do you know what wood it is?

Hello Loedjoe,

I don't have a clue but when it is really the same wood it most likely that both hilts are from the same area. Since I don't know exactly from where my hilt this isn't from great help.

IMO these 2 Jawa demam hilts are quite different, the one from Sajen seems to originate from Sumatra and the primitive one from Loedjoe possibly from Sumbawa. I have one piece also in primitive JD style deemed to originate from Sumba or Sumbawa (see picture).
