Maurice, I think an ivory "nail" would be able to hold small things together, in this case, a small crest to the pommel.

Yes, but I would have preferred a brass "nail", cause I could imagine that this ivory "nail" breaks off much easier as a brass one!

well Detlef you are probably right.
But I don't mind because it is an old break and also has the same patination as the rest of the pommel.
