Interesting Khyber, reasonable age. As you must collect in this field, what are your views on this piece. It always helps to know as much as we can so we can compare notes.

I think late 19th century,quality blade but not high quality(wootz),i think the silver and gold decoration on blade add to the Knife,not sure what the handle is made of dont think its horn?/original scabard above average decoration on brass plates .

Salaams Edward F Looks like black horn hilt and brass with as you say gold and silver adornment at the throat in a geometric and leaf pattern. The scabbard may well be a replacement. Reasonable decoration on the brass ...normal. Lots of daggers like this in the Afghanistan capital souk of ''Chicken Street''..etc.

Scabbard shows age and use,well worn on one side quess where it was against the body ,nice brown oxidation color on brass plate and lots of digs and dents.If the wear on the scabbard is where it was held to the body would make the user a lefty?

Salaams ~ When I was in Kabul I spent some time looking at several hundred daggers in Chicken Street ~ its famous souk area... though the twenty or so that I collected took months to clear ..something I will not attempt to do again ! Anyway some of the daggers here pictured were superb; probably Elephant tusk and horn with excellent blades. It was about minus 5 in the shop at the time so rather brisk to say the least..It gave the saying "cold steel" another meaning ! I'm sorry I don't have any more photos of that escapade..
