Default Elgood's books ???

Supposedly, Robert Elgood was about to publish 2 new books on Indian weapons: one was promised for November 2013, another for January 2014.

I am keeping an eye on Amazon but.... nada...

Any information?

Yes, two new books are on their way, but when they will hit the street is unknown to me.
I will write on te forum should I hear something more precise.

As a woman of my acquaintance once said "I do not buy books, I already have one" :-)

I am still waiting for the two Elgood's books. They must be about North Indian weapons. Time to learn something beside Rawson.

Ariel,
The books are on the Jaipur armory and the other on the Jodhpur armory.
With a bit of luck one should be for sale late this year or early next year, and the other one should be published next year - as far as I have heard.

The last I have heard is, that the Jaipur book should be published in January - next year, I think :-).
The Jodhput book should be published later in 2015 - I think/hope.
I have no details about how/from where to get the books so far.

I will let you know when I hear something.

This post prompted me to visit a well known internet book site and I see that Robert Elgood has published HINDU ARMS AND RITUAL----ARMS AND ARMOUR FROM INDIA 1400-1865. Published in 2004.
I am assuming that this is not the books discussed here??

No it is not.
The Jaypore book should have been on the street months ago, and the Jodhput book shoul follow later.

HINDU ARMS AND RITUAL is for the South, non Muslim India.
The books on Northern India will follow in the next couple of months.
I have no doubt that they will be excellent.

If you want to purchase the book now through a reliable site, I would suggest
the Advanced Book Exchange or www.abe.com

I've never experienced any problems ordering internationally via their site.

I was unable to order via Amazon-India.

Thank you so much guys for the updates and helpful information regarding Robert Elgood's new books!!!!
They have been long awaited, and as most of us here know, his references have become a mainstay around here for serious arms students and scholars.
It is really helpful to have this information and looking forward to proceeding with ordering them myself.

Hi all,

Sorry I was travelling and couldn't respond earlier. I got my copy from eastern book corporation with 20% off and free shipping within India. I recommend checking with them or the publishers - Niyogi books.

Other avenue will be D K Agencies from Delhi.

Also this should be available with most leading book houses.

I hear the Jodhpur catalogue is due in Dec or Jan.

Regards,
Bhushan

Default ABE vs Amazon

Copies are available from ABE books for less than $100. Amazon was $300

Robert Elgood's next book on the Jodhpur armoury is said to be out just before Christmas, and it will be in two volumes. It should be from the same publisher as the Jaipur book. Let's hope they make it.

I have asked the publisher, and here is the answer I got. One could say that it is a bit late, taken into consideration when it was first planed published, but you must remember, that we are speaking about several pages:-).

'The book is scheduled to be published in the month of July 2017.

Regards,

Niyogi Books'
