What would you guys say this is from ... British, French ?
Some help here ... please ?

French infantry gun M 1717, marks of St. Etienne are visible, "Louis Carrier"was gunmaker and entrepreneur in St.Etrienne between 1680 and 1729

Thanks much, Udo. I had a feeling for French, but couldn't discern the St. Etienne mark.
... Nor did i make it that LOVIS was LOUIS .
