yes, this is definitely from nias.. considered as under the parang category..
i've seen a similar piece like this posted in other forums..

Default "Mini Balato"

Hello,

I have a "vintage" (I don't think that is very old) mini balato.
The blade is relatively thick (4mm) and measures 12,6cm
Overall size : 22cm

The style of the handle is close to that of small balato and si eulis in this thread :
