Default good ? french mamluk style sword

Hello dear members,

I wanted to show you this french ? saber-sword,
The blade was trapped in the scabbard ( lot of rust...)
but I finally got it !

I don't think it's an old napoleonic mamluke style sword but not just a recent copy or a good quality one:

At first sight: fake shagreen covered scabbard and brass/bronze mounts that seems too well preserved make me think of a recent copy,
the chromed blade too seems weird...

On the other side, the chromed blade is thick but really flexible, seems made of good steel
and the hilt, has nice blond horn grips.
Too much for just a repro !?!
Or was it usual in the early 20th century to make good copy for orientalists fans ?

Hello,
Thank's a lot Ulfberth !
For your message and the good news !
For me, the fabric-fake shagreen covering the scabbard was a later add
and make me doubt about the mounts too...
The blade was an interesting surprise,
especially that it was totally blocked by rust in the scabbard:
just WD40 in the interstices and a lot of patience

2-3 pictures of the hilt and blade who is not that bad even if chromed
( I read it was sometimes made on gala swords... )

Kind regards

Your sword blade would not be chromed, looks like etched design on the steel blade. Some mamelukes have nickel plated blades. It is difficult to make a call using digital photos whether it is nickel plated or not.
As an example of a nickel plated blade here is a Wilkinson circ 1902.
