I have not so long ago acquired this keris with a very nice patina on the wood.

It is quite simple but shows good craftmanship. The bottom part (buntot) seems to be missing and might have had a silver cover or something there. Is it Minang Kebau as I think or not? And a ensemble picture of some of my other Sumatran krisses... Regards, Erik |

			Thanks and well spotted.

Unfortunately the beak is goneon the Gayo handle, it probably was silver (at least not ivory I think). It has 5 stars around the middle. From Jensen his Kris disc I learned that has to do with the rank of the wearer. Just had a look at your Minang handles, the are really great! Mine is much simpeler. Regards, Erik |

Your Gayo handle may have looked like the one in the following photo (no wonder the beak broke ).Best, |

Yes I do think so. I know this picture it is also from a website. There it also says this beak is a replacement as the original was gone.

When I have time I will try to make a better picture of the handle. I am thinking of restoring it... Quote:

Thank you for letting me know. I got the photo from my reference gallery but with no note on source. I'll make a note of it so it doesn't happen again. My apologies to the owner. Best, |
