Just a guess, but it looks as though two people decided to use the tactic that they wanted the knife "at any cost," meaning that if you put in a rediculously high bid you'll get the item at a bit more than the highest resonable bid. Of course, if two people do this...

			Yee Gods!

Started at .99 GBP! And went to 1849 GBP! Lucky seller. Hope the buyer pays for it!Reminds me of people racing on the expressway. One idiot goes speeding by you and then another one chasing him. There are almost always two. Bidding on eBay can evoke the same kind of "testosterone wars." This is why I always use a sniper. But, maybe the two bidders saw something we missed? We can always hope!

My guess is that two people made a big mistake in entering their bids. Looks like someone meant to bid 17.99, but missed the decimal point, and another person entered an even bigger bid by missing the decimal point. Unusual to have two similar errors on the same item I would think. Unlikely that this one will be completed at the final price.

If any forumites are interested in buying Swedish semi-antique knives at those prices I am happy to supply them?

Unlikely as it may seem, I think that Ian's answer is probably correct. Misplaced decimal points. Look for it to be re-listed.

Or is this a super-clever trick whereby it does not close and another buyer buys it for under $25 and then puts it on sale in his gallery with a printout of the first eBay auction showing it sold for 1899GBP and he will sell it at a bargain to some rich dumbo for only 1500GBP? Nah. But just in case it gets posted again, y'all may as well let me buy it. (Shhhhh) I would NEVER do that!

Obviously these were type Os the knife in question is a standard older Finnish puukko that normally sell for $50-75 on Ebay.Lew |
