There is no sign that it is for a 'threaded tang' that I can see. It more likely had a reasonably strong tang with the end protruding thru the pommel and secured by peening over a round 'keeper' or washer. A photo of the opening in the guard as well as one of the opening at the sword end of the grip would be informative one way or the other. Even a crap blade with a stub welded to a threaded rod might have an opening for the teeny stub big enough to be fooled tho.
