Help on an animal motif on Chinese spearhead

Here are bigger photographs of the spearhead (took me a little longer to take them then I thought it would).

It does look like an owl! I was sort of fixated on (in my mind in any case) more common decorative motifs in Chinese art that I dismissed birds from my consideration simply because the carving didn't look like a phoenix.
