The depicted Lion like temple Guardians from Nepal in this picture are often called Chinthe, in both Nepal & Burma. I agree There definatly Leogryphs in English language deduction. That's why the have lions tales. Heres a great picture showing a liongryph ( of south Indian yali form} and makara figures on frieze at Narttamalai Pallava Cave Temple. from the seventh-eighth centuries.{From the Huntington archive.} That may {or may not.} help your discusian.
