I also find the pictures very frustrating. I am hoping it will arrive latter today. The stone and much of the whole thing is probably smeared with a orchre like pigment. I think the head may be a soft stone and easy to carve but sure it is hard enough to hurt soft bobied creatures. I have a staff that was coverd in a red pigment. It left deposits everywhere not just on your hads. It is not that nice and to avoid trouble and strife I rubbed it all of with a cloth
