That would fit with my initial thoughts that the Coronet was representing an Austrian/German 'Freiherrnkrone' (Barons Coronet) I'd guess it might just be a makers stamp? You could look for late 19thC Austrian German makers who use a coronet as a stamp. Does the pommel nut unscrew to allow for stripping?
