				 | North Sumatra Klewang

Hello, I recently found this heavy Klewang, sold as an African machete. I think it comes from North Sumatra, I have already seen it on the forum or on the internet with painted or engraved scabbard and foliage sculptures on the handle. Here the model is really very simple, just a weaving of rattan on a wooden handle. There are remains of an old white varnish covered in places with another brown, I think these are later additions made once the weapon arrived in Europe. The blade is thick and heavy, the total length is 77cm. Seems like a rare model, but I don't know what culture / people made this type of Klewang. Is there a more precise name than "Klewang"? Thank you in advance for your comments. |
