Also, the rings are not riveted, just butted ends, a trait of the cheaper modern versions. A mitten for swords would have a mail layer sewn to a leather glove to provide grip to the sword hilt. A butchers glove has links on the palm and back of the hand to improve grip on a fish or slippery bone, which would scrape and damage a sword grip. Modern butchers or anti-shark mail use smaller links of stainless steel with welded links.
