Hi

Submitting this on behalf of a french speaking friend - he bought it in the USA, sold as a native axe/weapon - to me it looks african, but I know about tools not weapons... Can anyone give a positive ID???

Naga axe said to be the more rare form.

What is the explanation for the variations found among Naga axes?

I AGREE A FINE OLD NAGA AX WITH NO FRILLS.= HAIR ECT. THERE ARE SEVERAL VARIATIONS IN FORM AND AS I HAVE NO GOOD REFRENCE BOOKS CAN NOT PIN IT DOWN FOR YOU. tHERE IS ONE OLD WARRIOR IN FRONT OF A LARGE WOODCARVING THAT IS IDENTIFIED AS KONYAK TRIBE. AND ANOTHER PICTURE HAS ONE WARRIOR WITH LOTS OF WEAPONS THERE ARE AT LEAST 2 AX THAT RESEMBLE YOURS.

Is that a metal handle a-la pandat and Naga two-hand swords?

The handle is metal with a wood core. The two hand swords I have seen are all metal. I have one of these also

Thanks for the pics! Incidentally, if anyone would like to have a quick and dirty translation of virtually any language for any webpage, one can try Google's new web browser, Chrome. It can be downloaded for free from here.

In Chrome, whenever one encounters a foreign language webpage, a message pops up asking whether one would like to have a translation. Pls. see attached.
