Way out of my collecting theme but I rather liked it so it came home with me.
I believe that it is a Chinese Rice Container. Stands 60cm tall and is made of laquered paper mache, and bound with bamboo/rattan. Can someone please confirm my thinking, and also if possible please translate the script? May thanks in advance (Sorry the pics are not upright!) Stu |

Pre 1945 there was very little difference between the two, if any, and the use of lacquered paper-mache is a very Japanese thing. A nice item to have in either case.
