			Hi All,

A friend of mine acquired this and wanted some help with ID and age. My feeling is this is not too old but I could be off the mark. Could we get the experts to comment here on age, style etc? The photos are not great and I've asked my friend to send more snaps. Regards, Bhushan |

It is not a percussion lock, but rather is made to resemble a flintlock. The extremely short jaws of the cock and the overall crudeness of workmanship suggest that it is probably a decorative piece rather than a functioning firearm. Better photos of the lock and the pan would show whether the barrel even has a touch hole.

let me just say that foraging about in the Indian and Afghan souks is probably the finest way of learning about fakes.. and some of them are superb...well made and difficult to separate from the real thing..and the best way of learning the tricks is to handle lots of them... recognise the pitfalls and even go see them being made in the backstreet workshops if you get a chance.. Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. |
