someone have seen a hilt like this before or know from where it orginate? Is it a Bugis form?

Hi guys,

Sorry to abruptly come like this.

The hilt was quite unusual, even though the "bangunan" looks Bugis enough to me.

Is the Selayar island is only attributed for this kind of hilt? Or do they have different wronko and blade forms as well?

Well, I reckon there must be a slight different from the typical Bugis keris. As for this case, the hilt. Or it is just simply because it was made there.

The same puzzling question that is similar to this case is about Karimun kerises.

I think that not all Selayer hilts have this form since this is the only one I have seen until now.

True, this is an uncommon form. Selayar have a typical form, similar to the distinctive badik hilt from Selayar. Refer to Zonneveld's, "Traditional Weapons Of The Indonesia Archipelago".

I've browse thru' Jean Greffioz's book.. unfortunately there is no example of a Selayar hilt (both badik and keris form). I'll post an example soon.

Thanks for the link, Alam.

However I found that pak Majid's Selayar hilt is more twisted and bowed than of Detlef's. Why is that so? Any opinion?

It was quite twisted and almost look like a Sumbawa hilt....(anyway the pix itself wasn't that clear... )
