hi i came accross this on ebay ,

and the first thing i though was where is it actualy form ? and how old is it? the blade looks like on an old viking or saxon knife... but i understand that in central asia this form was common... 1000 years or so back... anyway its got me stumped, id say i relay dont have a clkue with it. mongolian?? i dont think from the last 600 years if it is.. it looks to me form something form tibet or such an area , but ive not seen such a knife before.. whats your opionons on this one? |

It looks like what's left of a Java eagle or hawk sword in relic condition. Probably not that old; perhaps early 20th century.

There is a very nice example here:

http://www.ashokaarts.com/edgedweapons/ew-12.html Just imagine what it would look like with a broken blade and significant weathering. n2s |

the only reason id totu this a sa mongolian knife it the seller on ebay did so ,personaly it looks nothing like any knives form that area,, looks like a saxson seax witha bird on the grip,, maybe it is , but the grip seemse to be ivory or bone , and its not in a south east asian style,, i think , |

I'll muddy the waters here a little probably but when I saw this I thought of the hilt on this sword on artzi's site. Again not a great match but I thought I saw similarities

http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/...02210/ph-0.jpg Can we get more info on the central asian provenance ? This sword is south east asian and I think the blade style may fit knives from the same area as the sword on artzi's site but someone here may know better than I do. And often we can see what we want to so often I see Thai/ Burmese influence where it is not. Here are some thai knifes posted by Puff in another post included for a reference on some common knife blade styles from that area. Look at the 4th from the left http://www.uamulet.com/showsoImages/Pic_7486_1.jpg Last edited by RhysMichael; 19th July 2006 at 11:21 PM. |
