The texture and corrosion pattern of the blade are most convincing for authentic antiquity. Gavin is likely correct and I also hold a suspicion that this might be a portion of a longer sword blade that has had this point re-formed later. The hilt is probably contemporary with the point, though I have seen wood survive better than the iron in a few cases - it just depends on where the blade had been 'resting.'
