Another consideration here could be that the knife itself is not primarialy intended as a weapon, as most seem to be worn as adornment/status statement, and the blade itself not regarded as the primary function.....just a thought!

No what it is so that many blades are not made in I doa or Pakistan and are not forged. They are a single 2.5 or 3mm sheet. Of steel. Then a rip of steel is welded on either side of the blade. Then a rod is welded as the tang. Likes like a jigsaw puzzle. Then the edge is heated up and quenched to make it a little hard and .. ta-daaaa
