I don't think we see this more bulbous hilt form until the early 20th century though. Looks more like perhaps the 1920s to me. But frankly i'm not sure there has been enough scholarly work on these...

Nice knife Sid. While i know nothing about it i have to agree that it is not a wedhung. I don't believe it is a Javanese blade either. I tend to agree with the theory of a Sumatran origin.
