I think it's maybe Caucasian or Cossack From Eastern Europe somewhere, and later 19thc with a fine wootz Shamshir blade from Persia. It was bought as it is, its scabbard is made this way for edge up...

From what i've read, very early (pre 17c) ones may not have a recognisable cho/kaudi cutout. They still seem to have an unsharpened narrowing of the blade for a bit before it enters the grip....

I probably wouldn't have polished it & left the black tarnish, tho I would have (and will) sharpen the edge better....
