Well, one way opr another i would say that you must attend to the rust problem as it will only get worse on it's own, not better. I have never tried covering with varnish, but it might be successful....

I believe what Thomas was saying is that the stones scratched the glass, not the other way around. I suspect they are more likely garnets than rubies, but probably real gemstones.

The photos could be deceiving due to the poor quality, but i find it interesting that such a relatively high end carved ivory hilt is married to this pretty low level keris blade.

I don't see much that is particularly Bugis in this keris. The dress looks Sumatran to my eyes and the blade as well, but while some Sumatran keris will indeed have a Bugis influence i am not seeing...
