Hard to say

Umm I think he may have something to say if I try to take it appart to see the shape of the tang. From what can be seen I would say square. But could be round, really hard to tell, any further into...

The only thing we know, is that it has supposed to have arrived in England via Holland and origin before that is unkown.
Age, I'm not sure either. Old repair to the hilt, certainly means not new but...

Hi all

Ah only my opinion

I think its from coming across tourist examples, with often good construction & detail on the hilt and scabbard, that you then just draw and........oh!
I'll buy rusty, pitted, half broken items...

Not your usual Moroccan

Hello all
I keep finding examples of Moroccan jambiyas and they are usually such a disapointment, especially when it comes to the blade.
This one came as part of a trade and I have to admit,...

Hello all
Is there a correct name for one of these?
I've been through Stone and Egerton and there doesnt seem to be one. There are similar ideas with the Bichwa daggers but they seem to usually...

OK so its not so new a Dha

Hi all
Well actually this is my oldest piece. That is, the first serious weapon I bought and still one of my favourites and not seen on this forum or anywhere else too often.
A Dha with a clipped 2...

The group

So as a comparison, a small indication of just how much variety exists, both in size & design, even within a small sample.

Right on the blades

Yes Jim, both blades are single edged and I agree that while both are in a European style, I too believe them to be of Indian manufacture. Interestingly enough the first, with its mark, also has it...

I thought that myself

Yes the scabbard seemed rather odd to me, with the brass throat and chap, trying to emulate a European style. The furniture also looks like it may have been silverd at some time.
Do we still hold to...

But I was left the scraps!

No, I got what I wanted but there was a lot that did seem to sell well under value, especially on African spears, of good quality.
I was VERY tempted by a Indian tiger hunting spear, massive...

Ah well

I have been convincing myself that I have to specialise and go all Indian but there are still things that get through my good intentions...and these were two! May part with them in the future when I...

Interesting African swords

Also from todays hunt!
A takouba, which I find a very nice example. The ones in this same form that I find are usually falling appart. This one very sold and scabbard very trim aswell.
The other...

Oh well next time

I have to come clean. The information was all for a auction today in North Yorkshire. Pata went for a decent price but the type didnt grab me, so I'll wait for a nice early chisseld steel variety....

Cheers chaps

All useful info. Quality looked respectable enough but blade very light, so I would guess at the ceremonial type you described. In general form, very similar to the example shown here but in brass....

Hello all
Really have no idea if this is European, ethnic, a weapon or a kitchen knife.
About 14" long, three rivets through handle to secure blade, which not very thick.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Andy

Third tulwar

The more serious weapon of war this, with heavy blade and large hilt. Not especially the banded decoration to the grip.

Second tulwar

Very short blade and light construction. Hilt silver coverd, which doesnt show too well on the photos.
Looks like the Southern Indian styles but never encounterd one with such slim quillions.
