Another African knife
I found this one, hidden in a corner of an antiqueshop.
At first glance, it looks like a spear blade which has been converted into a dagger.
As usual, when I got home, I started looking through...

It's African, but that's all I know
Found this piece a couple of days ago. The seller said it came from Belgian Congo, but that's all he could tell me.
It's a kind of 'Swiss tool' African style.
The piece consists of :

Tim, the 'special' one has a total length of 60 cm, with a blade measuring 48,5 cm. It has a tang which goes through the handle and is bent over at the bottom .

A new sickle knife
Last week was good to me : I found great stuff
Here's a sickle knife.
I had some trouble identifying this sword, but finally I found the answer in 'Tribal Arms Monograph, Part 1 (1996) by Jan...

An odd one
Last week, I was able to purchase two swords on a belgian auction site. The picture was bad and the seller did not know what he was offering.
One piece was a ordinary Konda sword as can be found...

Nice spear, Tim.
I believe the Tuareg spears were made from one piece of metal. The construction on this one looks a bit like we see with Masai spears : two long pieces of iron and a small wooden...

nice
Nice Seme, even if it's a modern one. I think a lot of work went into the manufacture of the hilt. I have no problem with modern African knives.
The blade is probably a reshaped blade of a...

In Zirngibl's first book, Afrikanische Waffen (1978, p 76), there's also a picture of a converted spearhead. This one comes from the Bambuti (Mbuti), a pygmy-tribe.
The author writes this :
The...

Flavio, I would like to see that picture.
In the mean time, here's the picture shown in the second boor of Zirngibl. These two are definitively converted spear blades. Look at the one on the left....

Is it a sword or a spear ?
This is something I picked up yesterday.
First look at the handle. It's made of wood, partially covered with iron band, some nails. Part of this handle also has a braided cord covering.

Nice
Very nice collection.
I think Luc is right in saying these are Tshokwe (or Chokwe).
If they are lightweight, perhaps they were only used for dancing.
I have one in my collection which could...

Dance club ?
As I already told Tim, I think this club is more a dance club. In my opinion from the Lobi people in Burkina Faso (or perhaps a neighbouring tribe).
It could, of course, also be used as a weapon....
