Noth African sword

The seller described it as an Asian saber, but it looks too much like a Takouba style blade to be anything but North African. It's going to be awhile before it arrives here but I thought I'd post a...

Apologies for the delay in these responses, I'm still in purgatory so my posts need approval.

Very interesting... I bring it up because the markings on the blade do not look anything like the modern uighur script (which looks arabic to a foreigner like me) nor like the old uighur script that...

The sheath is definitely very modern. The leather is actually fairly nice, but the belt loop is made from a thin strip of vinyl or something. I thought it might have been added afterwards, why would...

I just googled "Uyghur knife" and they look very similar to this. Larger and of much higher quality than mine, but that must be what it is. Is it just coincidence it looks so much like a Buck knife?

markings on "mongolian" knife

I picked this knife up super cheap off e-bay. I know it's just a western hunting knife knockoff and there's nothing "authentic" about it, but I was intrigued and it cost about as much as a decent...

There's a ton of those "amulet" knives on ebay. Often they claim to be made from magical metals such as iron nails from a cremated casket or roofing nails from a monastery. Others, however, are made...

I think the scabbard mounts are iron or steel underneath all that brown rust. They may have been painted black at some time, although it almost looks like forge scale or maybe it's just corrosion.

Thank you for the information. I'm suprised it's so recent considering how worn out everything is, but I guess the desert ages things quickly. I wanted an older "weapon grade" takouba rather than one...

Takouba with 4 fullers

The worst thing about spending time on this forum is that you see all sorts of cool things you can't afford. Specifically, I really took a liking to straight North African swords like the Takouba and...

Two north african knives

The first one's a bou-saadi for sure. It's pretty rusty and the handle's dried up and beginning to crack, but other than that it's a really sturdy knife. There is a pin through the tang, but it's...

That's very interesting, thank you for the explanation. I think it is indeed an old saw blade, the teeth at the top look like they've been deliberately filed down and flattened. I wonder why the...

Indian Dagger for ID

I bought this as a "maharani safety dagger" from Jodhpur. Obviously the maharani part isn't true, but it was cheap and I liked the way it looked so I bought it. Now I'm wondering what it is,...
