Hi Yves,
There are several anomalies on this piece that lead me to think it may not be a Moro piece. The blade may have been made by a Moro panday but the ensemble does not look Moro to me.
The...

Hi Alan,
I had considered using one of the private carriers (Fedex, UPS, DHL), but the cost of sending even a small package to or from the US with any of them is prohibitive for the purchaser, and...

Looking at the blade, I believe that its maximum width is closer to the hilt than the tip. If that is the case, then this might well be a Sulu barung blade that has been remounted in a Maranao...

I think Jeff and Sajen have identified this correctly as a Maranao keping. The style of kakatua pommel suggests early 20th C manufacture. It would certainly benefit from cleaning the blade and hilt....

I think this is most likely a relatively recent Sulu (Tausug?) barung and sheath. I'm not seeing anything specifically Mindanao. Perhaps dating as early as the 1980s but probably more recent judging...

Hi Detlef.
A separate gangya occurred on some Moro kris blades made in the second half of the 20th C, and even on blades made today by traditional panday. Malayan blades still preserve a separate...
