Hopefully Chris Evans will weigh in. Until then, I will tell you what I have read. Because it is stamped "INOX" (stainless), your knife was made after the first quarter of the 20th century....

In Any Event...
Ian,
No matter what, it's a really nice blade and I especially like the hilt. Very graceful. I can't recall seeing another like it. A simplified deity hilt variant perhaps?
Sincerely,
RobT

Modified?
Ian,
Is there any possibility that the false edge was originally level with the spine of the blade and was subsequently filed down? Perhaps there was damage to the tip or perhaps the user wanted a...

Lee,
Some of the online sources that supplied the Franz Wenk information also suspected that the the blades were actually made in Argentina and exported to Uruguay where hilts were added.

Sajen,
From what I have been able to gather online, there is no such Solingen maker as Franz Wenk. The name Franz Wenk is a trade name for knives made by FANACU (Fábrica Nacional de Cuchilleria...

Corn Knife
Hi Ahite,
It looks like a US corn knife to me. I have seen a lot of these at antique fairs described as such. I have been told that many were made from broken civil war sabers.

kai,
Here are the close-ups you asked for and they show just how bad the cord wrap is. The cord goes under the leather bands and the bands (made of rough hide) appear to be glued on. I know that...

Kris: Sulu or Sumatra?
Hi All,
When I pulled my Christmas present from the sheath, I said to my wife that it is a very nice Sulu kris. Then I flipped the sheath over and saw “SUMATRA KRISS” printed on the 8 sided...

Unknown Short Sword

Has anyone seen one of these before. The hilt looks like a Kachin dao hilt. The ferrule is exactly the same as a khukri ferrule. The 19" (48.26cm) kopis blade looks like a huge, curved...

Fence Finial?
drac2k,
To me, the blade looks like an iron fence finial. That notwithstanding, it probably would work nicely as a push dagger if sharpened.
