Jean, am I right to think the profile of your blades are Bugis influenced, if not their cross section? The cross section being roughly a diamond (please excuse the unintentional pun) like the...

David, Jim & Ed, this has been an interesting and possibly fruitful discussion. Is this an ethnographic weapon? In many ways no. Is it primarily a weapon or a tool? Tool, I believe, but there are...

It is an interesting and apparently well item from the photographs. That said I am curious about a few things concerning this piece.

Very, very interesting. I wish I had this information 30 years ago. A weapon would need a very soft temper for this technique. From what the gentleman said in the video the technique also seemed to...

Agreed! To me it looks like a very effective close quarters weapon. Since the guard is hybridized was the technique using it also hybridized with blade-on-blade contact and perries with the side of...

Of Brazilian use or manufacture? Would you place the age between 1940-1960 or after? I would imagine the sheath is not original. It is quite well built, being water molded, tooled and the frog is...

It looks central American to me. I see El Salvadorans working with very similar sheaths today. Check out the Imacasa web site. They make patterns for almost everyone including Brazilian ones that...

Does this knife fully open or does it stay sickle like to aid in the scoring/scraping process? Interesting in that I had heard that a piece of glass was preferred for the scoring. Maybe a status...

Thanks Gustav! Now I see it. And around the icon is a circle made of three petaled flowers alternated with leaves that insinuate sunrays, a chakra, mandala, and a wheel of death and rebirth. Or it...

At my first glance I though, assumed, that the circles being held were Chakras. Once I took a better look, I could see only the top right figure held a chakra, the rest held bucklers, targets. It is...

If it is Rama, then is his adversary Ravana with the multiple (100) heads? Isn't he usually dark rather than light skinned? I had been puzzling over that one before you wrote.

I wondered when we would get to the Maasi Seme. The conical hilt seems to alter to a shape sloping towards the pommel (more like the Omani hilt we are discussing) as we move into the 20th century...
