Visayan working knife? Or something different?
 

I got this knife from an online auction today. Massive and roughly worked blade with V-grind edge, iron ferrule and nice veined wooden handle, the shape reminds me of Visayan handles. 38 cm long, blade alone a little bit over 24 cm at the edge, 7,2 cm high at the belly, nearly 7 mm thick at the spine behind the handle. Any thoughts?

That straight-edged heavy blade says working knife to me. Not sure about the Visayan or even Filipino attribution. There are mainland SE Asian knives with similar blade profiles and I might be more inclined to look in that area for its origin.

Yes, like I wrote in my headline it's clearly a working knife. A Visayan attribution I suggested only by the handle style and the used wood but this was only a wild guess since I never have seen such a knife before. But like you said, the origin could be from other places also. I am very unsure. :confused:
