Borneo sword for I.D

6 Attachment(s)
This is the first sword I have bought in a while as prices seem to be very high these days ( unless you are selling:D )
Is this a Langgai Tinggang ?
If not, then what ?
It is large at 57cm long and weighs 0.8kg.
It is a bit crude but I think too good to be tourist.
The face on the antler hilt is an added bonus.

Thanks in advance
Roy

Hello Roy,

Can't help with an exact answer but see here: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ghlight=Borneo
Maybe it's of some help for you.

Regards,
Detlef

Hi,
The blade doesn't look bad, but hilt and scabbard are very touristic for me...

It looks like mandau sword of dayaks, head hunter sword.
There are "real deal" ones and "touristic" ones.

Spine thickness and evidence of hand forging will be clues here. Blades get remounted in their lifetime, sometimes for use and sometimes for sale. . . .

Sorry, it's for sure not a mandau! ;) A mandau is more straight and has a concave/convex blade.

Comparison.

For all the metalwork on the blade, it doesn't seem to approach the quality that I've seen on Borneo jimpuls. I wouldn't discount the possibility of the blade being made for use - hard to judge from a small photo - but the dress is not encouraging.
