Beautiful example of early 18thC Austro-Hungarian heavy cavalry broadsword (pallasch).Usually they were inscribed “Vivat” somebody. The scabbard is beautifully decorated with grotesque face of green man. The tip has a barb which we have discussed endlessly in this forum about what its purpose could be. Pictures from Eduard Wagner, [/I]Cut and Thrust Weapons [/I](1967).

I think the inscription reads “Pro Deo fide et patrius” For God Loyalty and Fatherland? The maker’s mark looks like a crowned king’s head of the Wundes family.

Realy very nice with a scabbard. To me even the seriuos collectors swords without a scabbard are second class. If on a budget get a sword with the scabbard.
