Another Moorish crossbow
2 Attachment(s)
Hello, dear forum members !
Please excuse my English - I'm using Google Translate. Anyone interested in oriental crossbows is familiar with the Moorish crossbow in the Archaeological Museum of Granada. For a long time, I considered this crossbow unique and the only one surviving to this day. However, in David Nicolle's article "Archeological evidence for Mamluk archery," a photograph of a very similar crossbow, presumably of Mamluk manufacture, was shown. In 2007, Arthur G. Credland published an article about this crossbow in the Society of Archery Antiquaries' Journal, Issue No. 50. Perhaps the article contains good photographs of the crossbow, its dimensions, etc. However, the journal is printed in a very small print run, and I couldn't find this issue online. I would like to ask forum members for help. If anyone has this magazine, please scan the article or at least take a photo of the crossbow from the article. |
Hello genosse!
Welcome to the Forum. Thank you for posting your request about Moorish crossbows. I looked at the web site of the Society of Archer-Antiquaries at https://www.societyofarcher-antiquaries.org/index.htm. I would suggest that you contact the Society directly and perhaps become a member. That would provide you with the opportunity to purchase the journal issue that you are looking for, or the Society might make a photocopy of that article. On the Society's "Shop" page it says that all society publications are copyright, which means that we cannot display the material that you seek on these Forum's pages. The publication that you want is recent (within the last 20 years) and the copyright is current. It is possible that one of this Forum's members has the issue that you are looking for and might be willing to share copies of a page or two. However, any such discussions should be taken to personal messaging and not posted in this Forum. Regards, Ian |
Thanks for the information, Jan!
I'd be happy if any forum members could share any other available information about Moorish (or Islamic) crossbows. |
