Doesn't seem like a decor to me; aren't those langets to mount on haft ?
Is that some kind of smith's mark, or some kind of motif ... could you examine that, or post a close up picture ?

Sorry, I forgot. The cypher "FR" under a crown is that of the Prussian king Frederic II, the Great, *1712, +1786.

Hello,

this could be a relict from American Revolutionary War.

Many german troups were fighting in this war.

I added one picture with a figure, a German Sergeant Grenadier, Regiment v. Rall, American Revolutionary War, 1775-1783.
