TUGAYA BARONG

Hello friends,

from my father's collection, a Tugaya barong.
What captured my attention is the silver accoutrement on the blade (near the blade's handle).

Hi Yves:

Very nice example of Tugayan work. I like the expert carving on their pieces (although the style is a little flamboyant for my taste). Is the hilt wood or horn? I'm thinking kumagong but it's hard to tell from the picture. The small overlay on the blade adjacent to the hilt is reminiscent of those seen on some Islamic weapons from elsewhere (e.g., yataghans).

Your sword appears to be of recent manufacture (21st C).

Regards,

Ian

Hi Sir,

the hilt is made of horn (water buffalo). I have another tugaya piece (an older one) and I will post it asap.

Yves

Yes please post the older one. Though very nice, this is of recent manufacture as Ian states.
