Just bought this.
Cannot find the origin in my books. First thoughts were Naga or Nias but no luck with them.
Any ideas ?

Good aged patina on the rattan. The base appears to be split bamboo.
The "hair" is vegetable not animal.
Large enough to wear on the chest - but why the "basket" ?

As usual all suggestions welcome.

Regards
Roy

Agree with Willem,

the vegetable hair is attached that rain can't harm the content of the basket.

Very nice backpack with good age! :)

Detlef

I THINK THE VEGETABLE HAIR COMES FROM THE TRUNK OF SOME SORT OF PALM TREE. I HAVE SEEN IT USED FOR HAIR ON SOME OF THE WOOD CARVINGS MADE IN BALI. A NICE EXAMPLE OF BACK PACK.
