I just picked this knife up and to me it looks S.E. Asian, maybe Cambodian or Vietnamese. It has a heavy, sharp 11" blade(the cutting edge is on the inner side), with a crude wooden scabbard.

To me this looks like a shafra - the utility knife that goes in the back of the scabbard of Omani khanjars. If you search the forum for shafra you will be able to see some examples.

Not S E Asian but as Teodor says is Omani or that region. A bit big I think for a Shafra but there is a larger version (which I think yours is) which is worn in the belt or sash. The exact name of the larger one escapes me but I am sure someone here will know.

Have done a bit more digging. This knife is called Al Kusha....refer http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ighlight=kusha
The shafra blade is (generally) straight rather than curved.

Thanks, guys, you sent me down the right path and the Viking archives were a great source of information; based on the size of the knife, I agree that it is an Al Khusa.

Its a khusa, correct! but more towards Yemen and Southern Saudi. Though this type is well documented slightly north. Nice example.
