Hi

I have a Japanese Yari with pole seems to be of lacquer wood.

There are some scratches and if anyone can advises how to get rid of these scratches is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am somewhat familiar with the lacquer that the Japanese used on weapons, called Urishi (hope the spelling is correct). Made from sumac, it can irritate your skin if you sand it. Being a lacquer it could be buffed out, but I am not an expert on how. My suggestion is to use a very fine buffing compound, soft cloth, and gently work a small area to see if you are making an effect. Slow and steady is key.

Thanks. I was wondering if this is suitable.

Urushi Lacquer buy it on amazon? I have no idea of the colour range. Might do to touch up small scratches.

Cheap and cheerful - try rubbing some black boot polish into the scratch and then buffing.
The scratch will still be there, but you'll hardly notice it.
Regards
Richard

Thanks All.

I tried using 3M scratch remover for cars and used it on the spear lacquered pole. The result is awesome and no more scratches. It contains formula without wax so scratches are polished out and compound combines medium-cutting with fine finishing. I am happy with the result and thought to share with everyone.
